Test build

You get it before the shops do.

This is the real app, a little early. Put it on your Android phone, use it the way you actually would, and tell us where it lets you down. The awkward parts are the useful ones.

android only for now — iPhone can’t sideload

Installing

Four steps, and one scary-looking warning.

Android treats any app from outside the Play Store as suspicious. Yours will be too, until we publish. Nothing here is unusual, but step three surprises people.

  1. Download it on the phone itself

Open this page on the Android phone and tap the button above. Downloading on a laptop and copying it over works too, it is just slower.

  2. Let your browser install it

Tap the downloaded file. If Android says your browser isn’t allowed to install apps, it offers a settings switch right there — turn it on and come back. You can turn it off again afterwards.

  3. Push past “unsafe app blocked”

Play Protect will warn you, because it has never seen this app before. Tap More details, then Install anyway. If your phone offers to send the app to Google for scanning, you can decline.

  4. Open it and sign in

You will be asked for your email and sent a short code. Enter the code and you are in. No password to remember.

Already have an older test build? Uninstall it first. This one adds things the old build cannot update into, so installing over the top will fail.
Your photos stay on your phone unless you add them to an event. Nothing is posted anywhere, and nothing is shared with anyone you did not invite.

What would help most

Use it for something real.

A weekend, a birthday, a week of small things. Made-up test data hides the problems we are looking for. Tick these off as you go — the page remembers on this device.

Before you report it

Things we already know.

No need to write these up. Anything else, we want to hear about.

Printing a book isn’t available yet. It is the next thing being built. For now a book lives in the app and can be shared with the people in it.
Sign-in emails can be slow or stop arriving. The test sender is rate limited. If no code arrives, wait a few minutes and ask again, then tell us.
Invitation links may not be tappable in every messenger. If a link looks like plain text, copy it and use I have an invitation link on your books screen inside the app.
This build can be wiped. Treat it as a test. Do not put anything in here that you would be upset to lose, and keep your originals.

Telling us

Say what happened, not what you think caused it.

“I tapped this, I expected that, I got this instead” is worth more than a theory. A screen recording is worth more than both.

Send it however you normally reach us.

Worth including
  • Your phone and Android version (Settings → About phone)
  • What you were doing, step by step, right before it went wrong
  • What you expected instead
  • Whether it happens every time or only once
  • Whether you were on wifi, mobile data, or offline
  • A screenshot or screen recording if you can
